About EK STUDIOS

Hi, I’m Ella, the face behind EK STUDIOS.

After being inspired by my mums handmade pottery in my childhood home, I took up hand building at age 16. I did my year 12 major work in ceramics and have been hooked ever since!

At age 20 I began teaching pottery classes at Clay Sydney in Newtown, and fell in love with the art form all over again.

With a background in childcare and disability support work, I quickly saw the value ceramics could bring to school communities and disability day programs. I spent 3 years working with Ceramics In Schools. Here I taught school kids from K-12 to work collaboratively, creating large scale ceramic murals that we would then install onto a wall within the school grounds. The squeals of joy from the kids when they saw their small piece of a large mural installed on the wall, for all of their friends and family to see was unmatched!

When Ceramics in Schools hung up their boots, I decided to continue this amazing process and created the section of my business now known as ‘Mud Murals’. I took the Mud Murals concept to my part-time job at Sunnyfield day program where I worked to support adults with disability. Participants with a wide range of abilities would come together weekly to work on their mural and we saw a huge benefit for the participants. They learnt to work together as a team, to express themselves creatively, and for some it was simply a great sensory experience! The participants even went as far as hosting a market stall where they sold their handmade goods and were able to practice money handling and business skills. There was an immense sense of pride amongst the participants displaying and selling their own handmade artworks.

If you head to the ‘shop’ section you will see a collection of my unique hand built pieces. Alongside my teaching and mural work, I am passionate about creating bold statement pieces that will bring brightness and joy into your home. When you purchase an EK STUDIOS piece, you’re supporting a small one-woman business, and allowing me to continue to share my passion with the world around me.

Whether you’re here to purchase some of my work, sign your school or day program up for Mud Murals, book in for a Clay Class, or you’re just having a look, I am deeply greatful your support!

Love and Joy always,

Ella
